Overview
A full northern loop with a guided walk in the highlands to change the scale of it.
Something changes when you step out of the vehicle. The landscape stops being scenery and starts being ground. Tracks, dung, broken grass, the smell of the highland forest. One guided walk reframes the entire week of driving around it.
The rest of the route is a proper northern circuit: a full day in Tarangire, wildlife viewing on the road west, two Serengeti drives across the open plains, and the Ngorongoro Crater as the closing act.
Nights are spent under canvas, which keeps the trip grounded in every sense. This one suits travellers who want the classic parks but would rather earn them than simply be driven through them.

HOW THE JOURNEY UNFOLDS

Arrive in Arusha
Arrive in Arusha, settle in and meet your guide for a briefing on the route, the walking day and what to pack ahead of an early start.

Tarangire National Park
Drive to Tarangire for a full day of game viewing among the baobabs and elephant herds, overnighting near Mto wa Mbu at the foot of the escarpment.
- 03
West toward the Serengeti
Travel toward the Serengeti with wildlife viewing en route as the highlands give way to open plain, arriving at camp in the afternoon.
- 04
A full day in the Serengeti
Morning and afternoon game drives across the plains, working the kopjes and river lines for big cats with a long rest through the heat of the day.
- 05
Ngorongoro Highlands on foot
Move into the Ngorongoro Highlands and take part in a guided nature walk with an armed ranger, reading tracks, plants and the forest edge at ground level.
- 06
Ngorongoro Crater
An early descent to the crater floor for a major Big Five game drive, with a picnic lunch beside the water and time for lion, hippo and flamingo.
- 07
Return to Arusha
A slow highland morning, then the drive back down the Rift escarpment to Arusha as your safari concludes.
